What are you hungry for?

Blessings all,

Amos 8: 11-12 (message bible) Oh yes, Judgment is coming!”  These are the words of  my Master God.  I will send a famine through the whole country.  It won’t be food and water that’s lacking, but my WORD!  People will drift from one end of the country to the other, roam to the north, wander to the east. They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone, hoping to hear Gods Word – but they won’t hear it.

FAMINE – to suffer and hunger, starvation, lack and insufficiency

As I read the scriptures I shook my head to really see if I was reading this correctly, God said it won’t be food and water that’s lacking but His Word.  Hold up wait a minute.  How could this be?  Aren’t we preaching the Word in our congregations,  revivals, conferences, summits, workshops and ect.?  If we are then why are the people still hungry? Is it because they have itching ears?  Why are people going from church to church, conference to conference, revivals to revivals, traveling miles and miles to hear the Word and are still hungry?

We’re still hungry because we’re biting and chewing bits and pieces of the Word (ex: You’re cooking  Thanksgiving dinner and you’ve tasted and sampled every dish, but when it’s time for dinner, you can’t sit down and enjoy the meal with your family because you’re full of samples, but you’re not full from a complete meal) see you can’t sample every dish and expect to get the full effect of the meal, you must have an actual meal to be full and content.  See sampling wears off, like Chinese food, it doesn’t sustain you, it’s like a quick fix a snack per se.  The word of God states in  Psalm 34:8, O taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man/woman who trust in HIM.

If you  trust God you will taste, savor, chew, swallow and allow your food (the Word)  to digest and nourish your body then and only then will you be content and satisfy your hunger.  We must learn to take Gods Word as a complete meal, we must not pick and choose the scriptures  we like, for instance if I am struggling in lying, I don’t read those scriptures I read the scriptures of the things that I am doing right. And say if I am thirsty instead of drinking water (the living water-Jesus) to quench my thirst I drink sweet ice tea instead!

What if you searched for the Word of God and could not find it?  You would be in a terrible mess if God would take His Word and hid it from you. David says that he hid Gods word in his heart that he might not sin against God (Psalm 119:11). Do you have that type of hunger for the Word? Or do you have a Word eating disorder?  Are you bulimia in the Word?  Binge on the Word, taking in everything so fast and consuming vast quantities and you vomit what you don’t like back up?  Are you anorexic in the Word?  Starving yourself of the Word, never opening your bible to eat of  God’s Holy Word?

This is what God is saying in Amos 8:11-12, it’s not natural food that we will be lacking but spiritual food and if we’re lacking  spiritual food, it means that we’re not doing enough to get the Word of God out to people and we’re not taking in enough of Gods word to keeps us fueled and going, we’re lacking in nutrients and vitamins, there is a vitamin deficiency in the land of Christians. We should  be ashamed of ourselves, we consume many types of reading material but the Bible is the last thing we’ll pick up.

There are Churches on every corner and there are fast food restaurants on every corner, which one will you choose to eat in if you’re hungry and thirst?

I would love to hear your feed backs.

Forever His Servant

  1. Thank you for the inspirational word today. I just started reading and studing the Book of Amos and I found it to be very interesting indeed. However, I was not at chapter 8. The anology was awesome and definitely food for thought. What am I thirsting for? What are my deficiencies? My answer-“to know and understand the Word of God”. This message allows me to self evaluate to determine what I’m lacking.

    Thank for the word

WOW!!!! now that was a mouthful…..

This is so true…. And I most admit I have been guilty of choosing reading materials over the bible….

Thank GOD for coming into the knowledge

  3. I didn’t think about this action of picking and choosing what to read out of Gods book. I for one am very guilty of choosing other text over certain ones because they sound better at the time. We all could learn from this lesson that we as Christians should be more concerned with filling up on Gods complete body of work (the bible) rather than bits and pieces! Once again you have delivered a powerful message!

  4. Thank you for reminding us that God’s word is an all-you-can-eat, 24/7 buffet, fully paid (the blood) with to-go containers. Now tell me how could we not be fed??
