The Christmas season is fastly approaching and almost everyone is in the Christmas spirit, people are usually at their happiest or saddest this time of the year. Christmas brings many emotions and people stress to the level of depression and that’s not what Christmas is about. I like Christmas, but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday I’ll take old Tom Turkey any time of the year, it’s just something about family and being thankful that makes me feel so good, everyday is thanksgiving in my book.
Christmas – We decorate our homes with christmas trees, lights, ornaments, angels, snowmen, mistletoe, garland, wreaths, ribbons, candy canes and stockings to get us in the festive mood. Sniff sniff You can smell cinnamon, pine, peppermint, and the cakes and cookies. You have egg nog in the fridge (non alcoholic), a turkey and a ham in the oven, Nat King Cole is singing Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose or Michael Jackson is singing I saw mommy kissing santa clause, underneath the mistletoe last night. We light the fireplaces, set the tables with our best china, our children are on the best behavior, we send out christmas cards, read christmas stories and watch it a Wonderful Life, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, or Miracle on 34th Street. Those of us who live in areas where it snows, pray for a white Christmas, we have Christmas parties, christmas breakfast, christmas brunch, christmas dinners and some of us bring out the cheer. We take our children to the mall to visit good old Saint Nick, we take pictures with this jolly old fellow, the children have their christmas list and are telling santa what they want. Family’s coming in from the airport, bus stations or driving in for the holiday, you are so excited you are about to burst, you do your last-minute shopping for food and gifts you want to make sure everything is perfect.
Christ must – The decoration of our earthly bodies? Christ must be the light of our temple. Is your light shining? Are our candles burning brightly? Are we wrapped in the garland of praise, wreath of worship, ribbons of righteousness? We don’t need an angel at the top of our tree because we should have Angels all around us. We need to think about Jesus being hung from a tree (the cross) for our sins, Acts 5:30 Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Christ must be the center of this joyous holiday, Christ must be the reason for the season, we must tell the story of the birth of Jesus, we must share with our families what Christmas is really about, the gifts the wise men brought to baby Jesus and their meanings, Gold -royalty, Frankincense – incense that burned daily in the temple, myrrh – a perfume that Jesus was anointed with before his burial. When you decorate your tree this year (yes God made the Christmas tree) read this scripture Isaiah 60:13, The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir-tree, the pine tree and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary and I will make the place of my feet glorious. Yes Christ must be the reason for this season!!!
So let me ask you all a question, If we’re celebrating the birth of Jesus, why are we giving each other presents? Its His birthday right?
Christmas or Christ must?
Forever His Servant
