Tennessee Mountains

Blessings all,

As we traveled to Bowling Green, Kentucky to our godson (Jamarcus Allen’s) graduation from Western Kentucky University on Saturday (blessings and congratulations of Jamarcus). We drove through a few states. The temperature changed many times, we saw snow, iced and rain. Our surroundings changed many times too, Florida was sunny and beautiful, Atlanta Georgia was sunny with congested traffic and people, Alabama was in between cold and sunny, but Tennessee was one of the most interesting states that I have ever seen, I’ve never seen so many mountains, water flowing mountains, smoky mountains, snow-covered mountains, high mountains, sloping mountains, sharp mountains, large mountains, black mountains, brown mountains, multicolored mountains, tree covered mountains, mountains that took on the appearance of people or animals, Look Out Mountain a tourist attraction was just between Alabama and the Tennessee state line, beautiful mountains mountains mountains and more mountains!!!!!

The song “I’m on the top of the world” by the Carpenters came to mind.  Such a feelings coming over me, there is wonder in most everything I see, Not a cloud in the sky, got the sun in my eyes, and I want to be surprised if it’s a dream. Everything I want the world to be, is now coming true especially for me, and the reason is clear, is because You are near, You’re the nearest thing to Heaven that I’ve seen. I’m on the top of the world, looking down on creation and the only explanation I can find, is the love that I’ve found ever since You’ve been around, Your loves what put me at the top of the world. Wow I think this is such a beautiful love song, God is the creator of everything, and in the eyes of the Beholder all you can see is His beauty and His love.

I thought about these mountains as we passed through Tennessee and reflected the mountains in the bible. Jesus traveling to Mount Olive to talk to God. God revealing Himself to Moses at Mt. Sinai (Mt. Horeb).  Mt. Carmel is where Elijah challenged the false prophets of Baal to light their sacrifice with fire, of course the false prophets couldn’t do this because Baal was not real, but when Elijah prayed to God, God sent fire that destroyed not only the bullock but the altar itself. Remember Mt. Nebo  is where God told Moses to speak to the rock but Moses hit the rock instead , God took Moses to the top of the mountain, and showed him all of the beauty of Canaan but Moses died before he saw the promised land. Noah’s ark rested on Mount Ararat. David hid from King Saul on Mount Engedi, Mount Mizar is called a hill in Psalm 42:6, Abraham sacrificed Isaac as a burnt offering at Mount Moriah.

Mountains are very significant and special to God, miracles happen on mountains. Mountains are higher and steeper than hills. To be called a mountain the mountain must be higher than 600 metres.  A mountain is a landform that rises high above the surrounding terrain in a limited area. Not much lives on a mountain, the higher you go the less vegetation you see, not many animals are on the mountains (the exception being bears), You must be willing to travel to get to the mountain, it will take you a few days journey if you are traveling by foot, you must be prepared for this mountain journey, you must be in good shape for the mountains are steep, barren, rugged, slopping sides, sharp or rounded peaks, you must have a supply of food and water, you must have a sleeping bag and dressed properly, you must have something to make a fire with, if you have never traveled to a mountain you definitely are going to need a guide (a compass wouldn’t hurt either), someone who knows the mountain like the back of their hand, you don’t want to travel alone you may get lost, and you must have some type of communication device.

When you arrive on the  top of the mountain, God will meet you there.  Remember Moses countenance was changed when he came down from the mountain with the ten commandments, so look for changes. You will never be the same once you come down from the mountain.

Maybe some of us need to travel to the mountains, so that we can hear from God, we have been surrounded by so much negative talk and input. When the hustle and bustle of this life has over taken you, slip away as Jesus did and talk to God, Jesus stayed on the mountain for 40 days and nights, fasting and praying, seeking God with all of His heart.

Just something else for you to think about today the freshest water comes from the mountain (Jesus is the living water, drink of Him and you will never thirst). Folgers coffee states that their coffee is mountain grown and is the richest kind, it has been proven that Jamaican Blue mountain grown coffee is the best tasting coffee. For those of you who are coffee drinkers, get your mugs, pour yourself some mountain grown coffee made from fresh living water, feel the warmth of the mug, take a sniff, feel the steam, take a sip, now taste!! Aaaahhhh, Oh boy.

Forever His Servant,

Robin A. Curry
