Wake up!!

Wake up church! Why are we sleeping why are we sleeping why are we sleeping?

Revelation 3:1, 2 & 4, To the angel of the church in Sardis write: Those are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead!  verse 2, You are about to die! verse 4, You have a few people in Sardis that have not soiled their garments!

Wake up people we need to get it in gear, God is saying I know what you’ve done, yes you’ve visited the sick and shut in, yes you’ve fed the homeless, yes you’ve clothed the naked and so forth and yes you might have a great reputation, a full sanctuary and parking lot every Sunday with great praise and worship, but you are missing something, you’ve become so content you are glorying in the past but you are forgetting about your future, God said to the church and is saying to us You’re dead!!!

See you can’t fool God, He saw through the church of Sardis and He sees through us, we’re looking alive but we’re spiritually comatosed.

I remember my brother and his friends use to play cops and robbers they would pull out their play guns and say bang-bang you’re dead!!! and who ever was hit would fall on the ground and play dead, the difference between my brother and his friends and the dead church is that these little boys would immediately jump up with a determination to not get shot again they’re mission was to stay alive, but the dead church doesn’t care, it doesn’t matter if we’re jump started with jumper cables we sit day after day in a dazed and half dead stupor with drool running down our faces crippled and paralyzed, every limb in our body is doing its own thing, our fight and determination has disappeared.

Remember when Jesus took James, Peter and John with Him to the Garden of Gethsemane? They couldn’t stay awake and pray with Jesus, every time Jesus came to check on them they were sleeping, He reminded them to WAKE UP and to be alert, don’t sleep on the job, remember when Jesus fell asleep on the boat and the disciples told Jesus to WAKE UP because they were afraid of the storm, he had to tell them to have faith, remember when Peter was asleep in prison and the angel told him to WAKE UP and follow him, Peter didn’t ask any questions he just followed the angel right out of prison, this teaches us that God will rescue us in our time of need, another time Paul and Silas was in jail and the guard was asleep, they woke the and the guard woke up and told them that they were still there, this led the guard to be saved, remember when Paul was preaching and a young man fell asleep and fell out into the street, the Lord used Paul to perform a miracle to WAKE UP the young man , so what do we need to do to WAKE UP?

Let’s start off with constant prayer and devotion to God and spiritual rehabilitation, okay put your brakes on and  lift yourselves out of your spiritual wheelchair if you need assistance ask for it, but you got to move and move now!  Get off of your do nothing and do something, slowly slowly, get your limbs to moving, get the blood circulating through your limbs, can you feel yourself getting stronger?  Bend and stretch, crack your fingers, your neck, roll your head around and around, that’s right loosen up now stand up and walk, take it easy because you have been sleeping for a while you are going to be a little off-balance, steady yourself, no no-no don’t you dare use a can or walker for assistance those are crutches keeping you from your destiny, if you fall pick yourself up slowly now let’s try it again, steady does it, now put one foot in front of the other, wow look at you, you’re walking,  you’re getting the hang of it can you feel your strength returning to your muscles?  Now walk with the Lord like Abraham, Moses and Enoch did, these men were full of strength and power they were totally focused on God, if you walk with God then you will be alive and vibrant, you won’t have time to sleep on spirituality, you will always be fresh and ready for action no one has to blow the trumpet to alarm you, the enemy won’t be able to sneak up on you at any time.

I thought this secular song by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes is so appropriate in dead situations:

Wake up everybody no more sleeping in bed, no more backwards thinking time for thinking ahead the world has changed so very much from what it use to be, there is so much hatred war and poverty, wake up all the teacher’s time to teach a new way, maybe then they’ll listen to what you have to say, Cause they’re the ones whose coming up and the world is in their hands, when you teach the children teach them the very best you can.

Wake up all the doctors make the old people well, they’re the ones whose suffering and catch-all the hell, but they don’t have so very long before the Judgment day, so won’t you make them happy before they all pass away. Wake up all the builders time to build a new land, I know we can do it if we all lend a hand, the only thing we have to do is put it in our mind, surely things will work out we do it every time.

The world won’t get no better if we just let it be, the world won’t get no better, we got to change it now for you and me!
